NAVTEQ to Exhibit at the 2008 GSMA Mobile Asia Congress
(Business News & Technology News, 11 Nov 2008)
NAVTEQ will be highlighting its new map product and content portfolio at the annual GSMA Mobile Asia Congress, which will be held November 18 to 20, 2008, in Macau. NAVTEQ will showcase its global coverage across 74 countries in six continents, including countries in the Southeast Asia region such as Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the recently launched NAVTEQ map of India, with 124,000km of road coverage in sixteen major cities.
NAV2, a Shanghai-based joint venture between NAVTEQ and NavInfo, will showcase its China data offering which includes over 980 cities and 31 provinces. Attendees will also have the opportunity to view navigation-enabled mobile handsets from leading manufacturers like Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and Samsung, all powered with NAVTEQ map data.
In addition, NAVTEQ will feature 3D landmarks and Extended Lanes, two new additions to its South East Asia portfolio, designed to help customers create an enriching navigation experience for end consumers. 3D Landmarks enable an improved sense of place in unfamiliar or complex navigation situations by reconciling what end users see on their device screens with the road network reality while Extended Lanes facilitate navigation systems to more accurately guide users through complex maneuvers. And visitors can learn more about NAVTEQ Discover Cities, an integrated package of pedestrian-centric content that allows people to orientate themselves and navigate efficiently by foot and via public transit systems. This year, Discover Cities was launched in Australia, Singapore and Thailand.
To demonstrate NAVTEQ's commitment to nurturing talent and driving innovation in Asia-Pacific, NAVTEQ has launched the NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge, a global developer competition which will make its second appearance in Asia in 2009. With a prize pool of over $5.25 million, talented developers can visit the NAVTEQ booth to receive technical guidance and find out more on how to qualify and submit their applications to this competition.
