Fujitsu to Supply Core Network System for NTT DoCoMo's "Super 3G"
(Business News & Technology News, 29 Sep 2008)
Fujitsu Ltd has been selected by NTT DoCoMo Inc. to be a supplier of core network systems for the carrier's next-generation Super 3G high-speed wireless communications network.
Fujitsu will supply components of the core network system Evolved Packet Core (EPC), comprised of S-GW systems, which handle data transmissions with mobile phone handsets, and P-GW systems, which connect the core network to corporate and other external networks.
In 2006, NTT DoCoMo selected Fujitsu to develop and manufacture both wireless base stations and handsets for its Super 3G network, which is based on the emerging Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard designed to enable high-speed transmission of large volumes of data. With this latest announcement, Fujitsu will be supplying comprehensive systems for the next-generation network, encompassing everything from wireless base stations and core network systems to mobile phones.
Leveraging Fujitsu's innovative IP technologies and switching technologies for base stations, the S-GW and P-GW systems comprehensively integrate the hardware and software being deployed globally by Nokia Siemens Networks. The technologies of the two companies combine to produce a single system with a flexible configuration designed for growth and changing traffic conditions that can still operate more efficiently and with smaller space requirements than its predecessors.
