Bus Port Protection Array Provides 1.2pF Capacitance

(Product News, 8 Sep 2008)

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. has released a compact new four-line ESD-protection array designed to provide a low capacitance with a high surge current for the protection of dual high-speed USB ports, or up to four other high-frequency signal lines, against transient voltage signals.

The VBUS054CV-HS3 is packaged in the leadless LLP75, with a 1.6x1.6mm footprint and an ultra-low profile of 0.75mm to minimize the board space required for active ESD protection in a wide range of portable electronics, including portable and handheld computing, communications, industrial, and medical systems.

The new device features a low load capacitance of 1.2pF and a low maximum leakage current of <0.1µA at the working voltage of 5V. The array offers a breakthrough voltage of typical 7V (at 1mA), and a maximum clamping voltage of 22V at 13A.

The bus port protection array provides transient protection for four data lines as per IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD) at 30kV (air and contact discharge) and IEC 61000-4-5 (lightning) from 11A. It is also compliant with RoHS 2002/95/EC and WEEE 2002/96/EC.
