MPEG Video IC Market in Mobile Devices Outpaces Tethered Products
(Business News & Technology News, 7 Aug 2008)
MPEG video ICs are used in many consumer electronics and video delivery systems around the world, and as those markets have grown, so has the need for MPEG video ICs, according to high-tech market research firm In-Stat.
"Today, the market for mobile MPEG video ICs in battery powered devices is greater than that of the market for MPEG video ICs in tethered devices," says Michelle Abraham, In-Stat analyst. "The main reason for this change is the use of MPEG video ICs in mobile handsets."
Recent research by In-Stat found the following: - Over 1 billion MPEG video ICs will ship in 2008. - Though unit shipments of MPEG video ICs keep climbing, revenues will level off due to declining ASPs. - With each new standard and market for MPEG video ICs, new MPEG video IC companies are launched while others consolidate.
