ARC Wireless Now Shipping Wi-Fi and WiMAX Dual-polarized MIMO Antennas

(Product News, 15 Jul 2008)

ARC Wireless Solutions Inc. is now shipping its new line of Wi-Fi and WiMAX(TM) dual-polarized antennas by its Wireless Communications Solutions Division (ARC). Two versions of Wi-Fi dual-polarized antennas are currently available: 2.4GHz 16dBi and 5.8GHz 20dBi. A 5.8GHz 23dBi dual-polarized model is projected to be available near the end of August of this year. For WiMAX applications ARC is currently offering 14dBi and 16dBi gain antennas in the 2.5GHz band and 14dBi and 18dBi gain antennas in the 3.5GHz band. These ARC dual-polarized antennas are compatible with the ARC IES product line, which provides an antenna/enclosure solution well-suited for PTMP (point-to-multi-point) and PTP (point-to-point) applications.

All of ARC's dual-polarized antennas are compatible with MIMO (Multiple-In/Multiple-Out) and non-MIMO applications. MIMO technology increases distance between communications devices and also increases data throughput without the need for more bandwidth. This is accomplished by using multiple antenna inputs to the receiver and multiple antenna outputs to the transmitter of the radio. The multiple outputs and inputs are connected to an antenna solution with multiple ports such as ARC's dual-polarized antennas. When used in Wi-Fi or WiMAX applications, the results are a higher performing and more efficient wireless network.

ARC's dual-polarized antennas provide high port-to-port isolation which, for MIMO applications, allows optimum processing gain and performance. For non-MIMO applications, high port-to-port isolation can help reject unwanted signals to enter the receiver which improves system capacity and performance.

The ARC IES line of products includes a fully integrated IP-67 enclosure solution designed to facilitate various antenna and radio combinations. The enclosure is compatible with all ARC integrated antennas, ranging from 900MHz to 5.8GHz, including embedded, bolt-on and external stand-alone antennas.
