8:1 Multiplexer Supports Hi-Speed USB Applications

(Product News, 9 Jul 2008)

Maxim Integrated Products has launched MAX4999, a differential, 8:1 multiplexer for Hi-Speed USB (USB 2.0) applications. This device switches between eight USB hosts and a single peripheral at data rates up to 480Mbps, enabling users to access data through the front panel of the server chassis. The MAX4999 features low, 6.5Ω (typical) on-resistance and low, 3pF (typical) on-capacitance. Additionally, an integrated charge pump improves performance by allowing signal levels greater than the supply voltage. The MAX4999 is ideal for applications such as servers, RAID, mass storage, and workstations.

To minimize power consumption, the MAX4999's enable input can be driven low to place the device in standby mode. In addition, the enable pins of two MAX4999s can be connected together to form a 16:1 multiplexer, while still supporting Hi-Speed USB data rates.

The 5x5mm MAX4999 operates from a single +3.3V supply, and is fully specified over the -40°C to 85°C temperature range.
