Tantalum Chip Capacitors Provide 0.8Ω ESR

( 1 Jul 2008 )

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. has released the TR8 series of molded MicroTan tantalum chip capacitors that provides ultra-low ESR values of 0.8Ω (at 100kHz and 47µF) in the 0805 case size, and an industry-low 1.5Ω in the 0603 case size. The capacitors are intended for applications in cell phones, digital cameras, MP3 players, and other portable devices. Like all series within the MicroTan family, the TR8 is fully RoHS-compliant and halogen-free.

The devices feature lead (Pb)-free, L-shape facedown terminations for better contact to the solder pad than traditional face-down-style terminations. In addition, their rectangular molded case encapsulation helps to streamline PCB assembly. Capacitance values for the TR8 series range from 1µF to 220µF, with standard capacitance tolerances of ±10 percent and ±20 percent.
