CommunicAsia and BroadcastAsia 2008, considered the largest infocomm and media event in Asia, opens its doors to visitors worldwide today. The event, running from June 17 to 20, also incorporates EnterpriseITAsia and InteractiveDME, and is held alongside CGOverdrive and the imbX Ministerial Forum.
Held at the Singapore Expo, the event covers more than 69,000m² of floor space over eight halls, and expects more than 68,000 visitors, half of which comes from overseas. Overall, the event has 2,300 exhibiting companies from 61 countries, showcasing innovative and leading technologies in the information and communications technology industries.
In CommunicAsia 2008, visitors will get to experience the latest technologies, ranging from 3G/HSDPA, WiMAX/LTE, broadband, fixed mobile convergence (FMC), fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), next generation networks (NGN), IP technology, Internet Protocol television (IPTV), mobile entertainment, satellite and security, to broadcasting-to-handheld, digital media asset management, immersive technology, and HD technology, being showcased by leading companies worldwide.
In addition, several companies, such as Samsung, LG and Garmin have chosen CommunicAsia 2008 as the worldwide and Asian launch pad for their latest product offerings. Navteq, on its part, is holding for the first time in Asia-Pacific the NAVTEQ Global Location-based Services Challenge, and CommunicAsia has been chosen to highlight the 12 semi-finalists, as well as to announce the winners, who will be receiving cash and data licenses worth over $4.5 million.
Navteq is among the first-time participants in CommunicAsia this year, which will be showcasing their latest solutions and product offerings. Other notable first timers include Sandisk, SK Telesys, Singapore-based Sirius Multimedia, TeleAtlas and Yahoo!.
Running parallel to the trade exhibition, the CommunicAsia Summit and BroadcastAsia International Conference will see speakers from leading companies, including IBM, O2 Group Technology, SingTel, Telekom Malaysia and The Walt Disney Co., share their views on the issues and current business and technology trends that impact the industry.
BroadcastAsia 2008, on the other hand, will showcase new methods of creating and storing digital content, and offering secure, seamless connectivity with the ability to connect customers to multiple platforms regardless of location. BroadcastAsia 2008 is also the first Asian destination outside of Japan that NHK has chosen to showcase its Super Hi-vision system (SHV)—claimed to be the "future of broadcasting"—which offers a resolution 16 times higher than existing HDTV.
