COMMUNICASIA 2008: Dialogic Proclaims Mobile Video as the Future of Asian Mobile Media Services

(Business News & Technology News, 17 Jun 2008)

Mobile video is the killer application to drive future mobile subscription services, according to Dialogic Corp. Eamonn Kearns, Dialogic's Vice President of Sales, Asia Pacific, made these comments as the company showcased several new mobile video applications, one of which is a 3G video social-networking service developed by Dialogic Partners Nano Equipment and Oasis Systems, at the CommunicAsia 2008 trade event in Signapore happening this week, June 17 to 20.

"Singapore-based Nano Equipment's roll-out of a 3G Asia Video Club, a mobile video dating service created on Oasis Systems' platform, which in turn is built on Dialogic Host Media Processing Software, is a great example of the future of mobile services in Asia," says Kearns. The service is a 3G video call-based social-networking service designed to make it easier for people to meet, share and socialize using their video phones. Users dial a local access number to get connected to the service. Each user is allocated a personal video portal which will be his or her home turf in the "club". Club users can record their own profile videos and video blogs online. Through the personal profile videos and blogs, club users get to know each other, make friends, send and receive private video chat messages and form communities.

As commented by Liew Kong Nam, Managing Director of Nano Equipment, video call rates, measured in minutes, are much lower in the region than mobile data rates, and the cost of video phones is going down here while the number of 3G subscribers is going up. "We are convinced that the demand for mobile video services will grow rapidly once customers are made aware of the possibilities, especially in countries where mobile phones are an important source of entertainment."

Oasis Systems' proven VoiceXML platform, 3G Video Gateway and Video & Voice Media Server delivers unqiue and innovative interactive video solutions and applications to herald a new form of mobile interactivity across a number of different applications. These include Video Messaging - Video & Voice Mail, Video & Voice Call Completion, Video Messaging to MMS & SMS, Video Dating, Video Banking, Video Content Portal & IVVR, Video Blogging & User Generated Content & Video Chat, Legal Call Intercept, Speech Self Service and Voice & Video Service Bureau solutions.

Oasis Systems CEO Greg Steer highlighted the user benefits of the Oasis/Dialogic platform as Modular Architecture ¨C Centralised or Distributed, Carrier Grade ¨C Scalable, High Performance, High Availability, Open Standards Compliance ¨C VoiceXML 2.0/2.1, Multimedia & Interactivity ¨C Video, Voice & Speech, Converged Networks ¨C TDM, IP & Intelligent Network (IN) and Protocol support ¨C SIP, ISUP, INAP & CAMEL & Diameter.

Eight Dialogic Partners are showcasing their video, wireless and IP applications at Dialogic's booth at CommunicAsia 2008 in Hall 5, 5D3-01: APEX Voice Communications, Bay Talkitec, Cellebrum, Envox Worldwide, INOVA Venture, MESSAGEmanager, Oasis Systems and Telogic.

The Yankee Group forecasts global mobile service revenue to be about $780 billion in 2008, with close to $200 billion coming from Asia Pacific. Kearns says that Dialogic would keep pace with rapid developments by opening a service support center in Shenzhen in August 2008 to cater to Chinese speaking countries and regions. The company already has a well established sales and support structure across the Asia Pacific region with offices in Singapore, India, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Taiwan, Korea and China.
