Mobile WiMAX Base Station from Fujitsu-Airspan Alliance Bags Best of WiMAX World EMEA Award
(Business News & Technology News, 23 May 2008)
Airspan Networks Inc. has announced that the Fujitsu-Airspan alliance co-developed Base Station solution has received the System Design award at WiMAX World EMEA. The annual awards, which are presented in six categories, recognize leaders in the development and deployment of WiMAX technologies.
Airspan and Fujitsu formed a development alliance in 2007 specifically to create a Mobile WiMAX base station, marketed by Airspan as the MacroMAXe and marketed by Fujitsu under the BroadOne WX300 brand name. Under the terms of the development alliance, Airspan provides WiMAX software defined radio baseband modules to Fujitsu, which provides state of the art radio and packaging technology. The combined solution is the smallest and most powerful outdoor macro cell mobile base station available on the market.
The combination of Airspan's baseband hardware and software with Fujitsu's amplifier and packaging technology has produced the MacroMAXe outdoor macro base station. The unit's high-output amplifier uses a gallium-nitride (GaN) High Electron Mobility Transistor (HEMT) device that was developed based on ultra-high-speed transistor technology invented by Fujitsu. This device is coupled with Fujitsu's digital pre-distortion technology to create two high-output power transceivers packaged in a single unit.
