8-bit Microcontrollers Achieve 32MIPS at 32MHz

Atmel Corp.'s AVR XMEGA family of 8-bit general purpose microcontrollers features the company's second generation of picoPower technology, making it the only microcontroller family that features true 1.6V operation. The XMEGA has fast 12-bit analog functions, a DMA controller, an innovative Event System and a crypto engine. The XMEGA microcontrollers range from 16kB to 384kB of flash and 44- to 100-pin packages. They operate from 1.6V to 3.6V and achieve up to 32 MIPS at 32MHz.

The devices are well suited for a variety of applications including audio systems, ZigBee, and networking, among others.
