Solarflare Showcases 10GB Ethernet at INTEROP 2008

(Business News & Technology News, 29 Apr 2008)

By Stephen Las Marias

Solarflare Communications is proving that 10G networking is ready for implementation and deployment. The company, one of the leaders in standards-compliant 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) silicon, is demonstrating its latest 10GBASE-T solutions at this week's INTEROP Conference 2008 in Las Vegas. The company is also presenting its solutions with its industry partners, including Citrix, the Ethernet Alliance, Ixia, PANDUIT, SMC and VMware.

Solarflare is the first company to support all three of the major virtual operating systems—Microsoft's Hyper V virtual OS, and the VMware ESX and Citrix XenEnterprise virtualization platforms. Its 10GBASE-T demonstrations prove enterprises and data centers can easily upgrade to 10Gbps over their existing infrastructures and deliver on ever-increasing business bandwidth demands, especially in a virtualized environment.

Solarflare Demo Locations
- Solarflare booth
Solarflare is showcasing network acceleration and line-rate performance in a virtualized server environment using the Solarstorm SFC4000E vNIC Controller. Solarflare is also demonstrating the 10Xpress SFX7101 PHY operating over standards compliant links in a worst-case channel environment. Configurations include six-around-one in the presence of alien noise, a four-connector configuration, as well as running over multiple categories of Ethernet cable such as Category 6A, Category 6, Category 5e and Category 5.

- Citrix/Xen booth
Demos on Solarflare-based technology optimized for the Citrix XenEnterprize virtualization platform will be shown in the PANDUIT, SMC and Solarflare booths.

- Ethernet Alliance booth
Solarflare is participating in a multi-vendor 10GBASE-T interoperability event hosted at the Ethernet Alliance booth. The 10GBASE-T pod will have 10 Gigabit Ethernet over 100m on copper cabling as specified by the Ethernet and cabling standards with a live traffic interoperability demonstration among servers with network adapters, switches and test equipment systems.

- Ixia booth
Ixia has the 10GBASET-ADAP-01 10 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Module, 10GBASE-T for 944-0022 (LSM10G1-01) and 944-0024 (LSM10GL1-01) load modules all based on Solarflare technology.

- PANDUIT
PANDUIT is featuring 10GBASE-T switch and NIC solutions from Solarflare running over standard cable configurations with typical operating conditions though a unique capture and play back of video data in a Citrix XenEnterprise virtualized server environment.

- SMC Networks
SMC Networks is showcasing virtualization and storage convergence with Solarflare's 10GBASE-T technology using Citrix XenEnterprise, iSCSI storage, Microsoft's Hyper-V and VMware's ESX server.

- VMware Partner Pavilion
Solarflare's demonstration at the VMware Partner Pavilion will highlight advanced capabilities of the Solarflare Solarstorm SFC4000E vNIC Controller. Remote management of servers running in the SMC booth will be featured by moving virtual machines from one physical server to another using ESX VMotion running live over a 10Gbps Ethernet infrastructure.
