Hay Systems Ltd (HSL) will be adding 3G capability to its 2.75G (GSM/GPRS/EDGE) femtocell. HSL's 2.75G Femtocell is currently under development and is expected to ship in volume towards the end of 2008.
Existing femtocells from other vendors typically provide 3G support only and are unable to support 2G-only handsets. Figures released by the GSM Association state that 2G GSM mobile connections account for 80 percent of worldwide connections.
HSL's addition of 3G support is expected to take place during 2009 and will bring to the market a femtocell capable of supporting both 2G and 3G mobile handsets.
