Motion Computing Licenses Wi-LAN Wireless Technologies

(Business News & Technology News, 11 Apr 2008)

Wi-LAN Inc. has signed a six year licensing agreement with Motion Computing (Motion) relating to Wi-LAN patents covering CDMA, Wi-Fi, WiMAX and HSPA technologies. The license provides for the payment of a running royalty and includes a payment in respect of past sales.

Motion Computing produces slate tablet PCs for mobile professionals in industries including healthcare, government, and field force automation. The company's enhanced line of tablet PCs and accessories are designed to increase productivity for on-the-go users while providing computing security, power and versatility. In a market analysis of the worldwide Tablet PC market released in December 2007, market research firm IDC ranked Motion Computing as the number 1 vendor in the slate tablet PC market.

"The agreement that we negotiated with Motion Computing, a leading vendor of tablet PCs, serves to further grow our recurring revenue and reinforce the value of our intellectual property," says Andrew Parolin, VP, Wireless Technologies. "As the determined efforts of our wireless licensing team continue, we look forward to signing additional agreements in the near future."
