Global BTS Transceiver Market Grew 35.7% in 2007

(Top News, 11 Apr 2008)

The global base transmitting station (BTS) transceiver (TRx) market grew by 35.7 percent in units in 2007, according to the latest report titled "Global BTS Transceiver Market Analysis and Forecast, 4thEdition, 2007-2012" from EJL Wireless Research. "The transceiver market continued to show exceptionally strong growth in 2007 with GSM growth at an incredible 46.3 percent," says founder and President, Earl Lum. The report provides a unique perspective on the global shipments and demand for TRx equipment covering all air interface standards and frequencies and major OEMs including Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei Technologies, Motorola, Nokia Siemens Networks, Nortel Networks, and ZTE.

"We had predicted last year that Huawei Technologies would hit number 3 and we were correct," says Lum. The overall market is expected to see continued growth through 2009 before seeing a decline in shipments in 2010. Initial shipments of TD-SCDMA were strong for China but still small relative to WCDMA shipments which increased 9.7 percent. Meanwhile, GSM900 remains very strong and is not expected to slow down until 2010 due to continued demand from China and India. But global demand for CDMA remains weak.
