Alcatel-Lucent Selects Sierra Wireless Embedded Modules for Secure High-speed Mobile Broadband Access

(Business News & Technology News, 9 Apr 2008)

Alcatel-Lucent has selected Sierra Wireless to supply embedded modules for its wireless laptop security, management, and tracking system, the OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian (NLG). Sierra Wireless is also working with Alcatel-Lucent on expansion and future generations of the NLG for 3G networks.

The Sierra Wireless modules embedded in the NLG provide reliable high-speed access to mobile broadband networks. For enterprise users, this enables convenient access from their laptops to email and information on corporate servers while working remotely, without the hassle of searching for a Wi-Fi hotspot. Even presentations and other large files can be transferred in a few seconds, saving valuable time for mobile professionals rushing between meetings or coordinating projects with office-based colleagues.

What sets the Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian wireless platform apart from other mobile broadband access solutions is that IT staff can now use the mobile broadband connection to address the "mobile blindspot", by remotely protecting sensitive data on employees' mobile laptops anytime, anywhere, even when the laptop is powered off, or in the event of a loss or theft. This enables organizations to extend the same level of robust security that is available for computers within the enterprise network to laptops distributed across a mobile workforce.
