Nokia Siemens Networks Shares its Vision at WiMAX Forum Congress Asia
(Business News & Technology News, 9 Apr 2008)
Nokia Siemens Networks will outline its vision for WiMAX and its innovative solutions that will drive that vision forward at the WiMAX Forum Congress Asia 2008 happening today until tomorrow here in Singapore. At the event, Michael Murphy, Head of Technology, APAC, Nokia Siemens Networks will also be highlighting the factors that are driving data growth in the wireless broadband arena.
To date, several hundred broadband wireless access licenses have been issued globally to a broad mix of service providers, and WiMAX is the only solution available to those license holders today. In addition, seven of the Top 8 telecoms infrastructure vendors are implementing WiMAX, supported by a growing number of chipset vendors. The WiMAX momentum is growing as global appetites for wireless broadband access take off.
"We believe that 5 billion people will be connected by 2015, four billion of them over broadband. This phenomenal growth will be accompanied by a 100-fold increase in traffic over the world's networks, making innovation across the entire ecosystem a requirement for today's operators," states Murphy. "This is something which we at Nokia Siemens Networks are in an excellent position to deliver. While WiMAX will be deployed in some greenfield situations, it will also complement other broadband technologies in others. As such, both scenarios need to be considered by leading vendors."
