ZTE to Build National Transmission Network for Kenya

(Business News & Technology News, 7 Apr 2008)

ZTE Corp. recently reached an agreement with the Kenya Government to help construct a large-scale optical network covering the Western part of Kenya. The Kenya Government will be deploying a combination of ZTE's Unitrans Series WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) ZXWM M900 equipment and ZXMP S385, the new generation of MSTP (Multi-Service Transport Platform) device to construct the network.

ZTE's ZXWM M900 System is a large-capacity, ultra-long-haul WDM equipment that allows multi-services access, and provides super-large-capacity and comprehensive transmission and network maintainability. ZXMP S385, on the other hand, besides allowing multi-service access, also offers comprehensive service capability with excellent network security protection.

Ensuring that the transmission network will support Kenya's future demand for network capacity, ZTE is helping deploy WDM technology as the backbone transmission of the broadband network, which is capable of supporting up to 400G/S and can easily be upgraded to 1600G/S.

Upon completion, the national network project is expected to enhance the transmission capacity of Kenya's telecommunications industry, providing high-speed, large capacity optical fiber transmission channel. It also lays a solid telecommunication foundation for Kenya and its neighboring countries, ensuring a reliable business communication infrastructure that could help support the country's economic development.

"It is a great opportunity to help the Kenya Government develop its nationwide transmission backbone network. With our state-of-the-art and reliable optical transmission network solution, we will help the country to construct a network that would support their future business and economic growth," says Han Ling, Vice Manager of ZTE Bearer Network Products. "In addition to helping Kenya, the network will also benefit neighboring nations that would open new business opportunities for ZTE to work with other telecom operators in Africa."
