Andrew's Stand-alone Site Diagnostic Product Helps Avoid Network Troubles Before they Start
(Product News, 3 Apr 2008)
Andrew Wireless Solutions, the CommScope Inc. division, has launched the OneBase InSite product family, which enables wireless operators to monitor cell sites remotely for performance degradation before it affects network integrity. By routinely monitoring network performance at each cell site, the two new InSite products help operators prevent minor problems from turning into major disruptions, saving them money by avoiding costly dispatches of emergency repair crews and helping maintain customer satisfaction.
InSite Connect acts as the central notification center for site alarms and status information, and it supports remote configuration adjustments and tower equipment maintenance among its many capabilities. InSite Connect includes a remote electrical tilt (RET) controller that allows for remote monitoring and controlling of AISG compliant RET antennas and tower mounted amplifiers.
InSite RF, Andrew's first stand-alone site diagnostic product for installation at the BTS site, is mounted in or alongside a standard base station transceiver (BTS) rack, which works with any original equipment manufacturer's BTS radio equipment. It can run site tests automatically according to a schedule or in real-time via an Internet connection. InSite RF takes readings on antenna return loss, uplink and downlink VSWR, pilot power, and other site metrics and will notify radio frequency technicians via alarms when performance is at or nearing sub-par levels. The system will begin customer trials in May. Initial support is for CDMA wireless protocols, with expansion to handle other technologies soon to follow.
Andrew is currently exhibiting its OneBase InSite product family at the CTIA WIRELESS 2008 show in Las Vegas this week.
