WiChorus Launches New Class of Intelligent Home Agent Solution for WiMAX Networks

(Product News, 12 Mar 2008)

WiChorus has launched its Home Agent solution, which leverages the capabilities of the company's Intelligent Wireless Core Platform and serves as a key component for emerging Mobile WiMAX networks. WiChorus is partnering with leading telecommunications equipment manufacturers' to bring their Home Agent product to market and is currently entering into trials with service providers. The Home Agent serves as an anchor point in a Mobile WiMAX network for the mobile subscriber station, enabling seamless mobility throughout a mobile WiMAX network and roaming across different networks and geographies, so that when a subscriber moves to a new location, its stays seamlessly connected and is reachable.

Key benefits of WiChorus' Home Agent solution are the following:
- Enables mobile service providers to develop unique, revenue generating services and provides the intelligence to characterize, control, and monetize the open Internet
- Includes built-in content management capabilities for enabling advanced features such as peer-to-peer traffic management, advanced accounting and billing, extensive QoS, and seamless mobility support, at lower CAPEX and OPEX.
- Augments access services gateways that were not designed for advanced IP services.
- Provides content handling capabilities designed specifically for 4G requirements.
- Complies with WiMAX Forum NWG specifications and interoperates with industry leading AAA servers

The WiChorus Home Agent works in conjunction with a Mobile IP Foreign Agent, such as an ASN Gateway, to ensure that IP-based subscriber stations can roam freely about the network while remaining reachable to other network users at all times. WiChorus' Home Agent sits in the data-forwarding path between the ASN-GW and the Internet in a WiMAX network, placing it in a strategic location for providing advanced services, such as peer-to-peer traffic management and differentiated quality of service (QoS). These advanced capabilities prevent service providers from simply becoming a "dumb" access pipe to the broader Internet, allowing them to create unique service offerings and ensure a premium user experience.
