Vishay Launches Surface-mount Power Metal Strip Resistor
(Product News, 7 Mar 2008)
Vishay Intertechnology has launched its Metal Strip resistor that is rated at 0.2W and available in 0603 package. With double the power capacity of the standard WSL0603-type device, the WSL0603...18 is a small, surface-mount resistor intended for current-sensing applications in DC/DC converters, power/Li-ion battery management systems, and VRMs in computer and telecommunications systems. In automotive systems, the resistor is optimized for electronic controls, including driver information electronics, engine, chassis, and climate controls.
Featuring selected and stabilized materials, the resistor offers a high power-to-package-size ratio while maintaining the superior electrical characteristics of the Power Metal Strip construction. The WSL0603...18 enables OEMs to use smaller PCBs, which in turn increases manufacturing speed and reduces raw material costs.
By utilizing Vishays proprietary processing technique, the WSL0603...18 offers an extremely low resistance range of 0.015¦¸ to 0.1¦¸ at standard tolerances of ±0.5 percent and ±1 percent. The device features the same TCR (±75ppm/°C) and thermal EMF (>3µV/°C) as the standard WSL0603 resistor, while offering an excellent frequency response to 50MHz, and very low inductance ranging from 0.5nH to 5nH. With a high-temperature capacity to +170°C, the resistor provides resistance to extreme temperatures, as well as to thermal and mechanical shock, moisture, and vibration. Its all-welded construction features solderable terminations and a resistive element of either solid metal nickel-chrome or a manganese-copper alloy.
