Ultra-low-noise, Low-dropout Linear Regulators Deliver 0.5A

( 1 Mar 2008 )

Maxim Integrated Products introduces what it claims to be the industry's smallest 0.5A low-noise, low-dropout (LDO) linear regulators, the MAX8902A and the MAX8902B. Packaged in a 2x2mm TDFN, the devices provide up to 92dB PSRR (at 5kHz), 16µVrms output noise, and a low, 0.1V (max) dropout voltage at full load (0.5A). The MAX8902A/MAX8902B offer ¡À1.5 percent output-voltage accuracy and a wide, 1.7V to 5.5V input-voltage range.

The MAX8902A features preset pin-selectable output voltages between 1.5V and 4.7V, and the MAX8902B allows users to adjust the output voltage between 0.6V and 5.3V using two external resistors. To maximize battery life, these devices consume a low, 80µA operating current and less than 1µA shutdown current.
