InterDigital Joins Wi-Fi Alliance

(Business News & Technology News, 27 Feb 2008)

InterDigital Inc. has joined the Wi-Fi Alliance, a global, non-profit industry trade association with more than 300 member companies devoted to promoting the growth of wireless local area networks (WLAN). InterDigital has been active in the 802.11 standards bodies for many years and by joining the Wi-Fi Alliance, the company will be better positioned for integrating WLAN capabilities into its wireless broadband solutions.

"In becoming a member of the Wi-Fi Alliance, InterDigital joins more than 300 companies from around the globe who are committed to delivering interoperable Wi-Fi solutions and ensuring a positive user experience through our Wi-Fi CERTIFIED programs," says Wi-Fi Alliance Executive Director Edgar Figueroa. "We are pleased to have them become a part of the organization."

The Wi-Fi Alliance works to enable the growth of the Wi-Fi industry through interoperability testing of products based on the IEEE 802.11 standard, and through promotion of Wi-Fi capabilities to consumers and users in the home, convergence, enterprise and managed access markets. WLAN and mobile/cellular technologies combine to offer a rich broadband experience—numerous major carriers have announced plans for Wi-Fi mobile services.
