Rohde & Schwarz's Signal Generators Now Feature DAB and T-DMB Options

(Top News, 27 Feb 2008)

Rohde & Schwarz (R&S) has added DAB and T-DMB options to four of its signal generators—the R&S SMU200A, R&S SMJ100A, R&S SMATE200A, and R&S AMU200A—to provide maximum test flexibility for manufacturers of mobile phones and car radios. Using a single instrument, signals can now be generated for all conventional mobile radio standards as well as for GPS, DAB, and mobile TV via DVB-H and T-DMB standards.

R&S's signal generators can now generate standard-compliant DAB and T DMB signals. The range of possible DUTs includes DAB receivers in car radios, T-DMB receivers in mobile phones, and components such as power amplifiers and repeaters. Standardized ensemble transport interface (ETI) files can be used as data source, making it possible to test receivers with real audio and video sequences. Since the option runs directly on the signal generators, test settings or signals can be changed without much time or effort, also via remote control. The signals are processed in realtime, which reduces test times and increases throughput in production.

In addition, the R&S SMU200A and R&S AMU200A signal generators offer an optional second path that makes it possible to simultaneously generate useful signals and interfering signals using a single instrument. If the generators are equipped with a fading option, repeatable tests can be performed under real-world conditions. Predefined fading scenarios can be quickly and conveniently set in accordance with the DAB standard, eliminating the need for complex test setups with an external fader and a PC with control software.
