Airspan Networks Inc.'s MicroMAX 3.4GHz base stations and corresponding ProST subscriber terminals have been selected by Agile Communications, a regional telecommunications service company that is part of the Internode group, which is one of Australia's leading nationwide broadband service providers. In addition to metropolitan broadband service provision across Australia, the company has been designing and rolling out innovative and sustainable broadband and voice services in regional South Australia for more than seven years.
Agile carried out extensive field testing of Airspan's 3.4GHz and 5.8GHz WiMAX equipment for use throughout South Australia's Yorke Peninsula and Coorong regions for six months last year, covering over 15,000 square kilometers. The culmination of that testing coincided with the Australian Government's announcement on October 17th, 2007 that Internode would be providing broadband services across those regions under the "Australian Broadband Guarantee" program. Since then over 10 base station sites have been installed and commissioned and customer premises unit installations have begun.
"The Australian WiMAX market continues to gain momentum and we are pleased that Airspan has been there from the beginning with a regional presence through our fully owned incorporated subsidiary, Airspan Networks Pty Ltd, based in Sydney," says Grant Stepa, Airspan's Managing Director & Vice President Australasia.
