SanDisk and SK Telecom Release Card-based Platform for Mobile TV and PVR

(Product News, 11 Feb 2008)

SK Telecom Co. Ltd and SanDisk Corp. have developed a new solution for mobile television and mobile personal video recording (PVR), which will be demonstrated at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, this week, February 11-14.

Using technology and services from SK Telecom and TrustedFlash-enabled microSD and MegaSIM cards from SanDisk, mobile subscribers will soon be able to easily view and record their favorite paid mobile TV content, anytime, anywhere, on microSD and MegaSIM cards from SanDisk.

This new platform enables mobile network operators (MNOs) to offer premium mobile TV services that can be securely recorded on SanDisk TrustedFlash memory cards, while at the same time preventing unauthorized transfer or distribution. Subscribers can bring this paid mobile TV content with them when upgrading handsets, or port it to other devices, such as a personal media player or personal computer.

In addition to developing additional mobile applications, such as content distribution for games, movies, e-books, video and animation for their joint mobile content platform, the companies plan to cooperate on commercialization of the mobile TV and PVR solution worldwide.
