ZTE Tops 2007 Global CDMA Market

(Business News & Technology News, 30 Jan 2008)

ZTE Corp. tops the global CDMA market in terms of the number of CDMA contracts signed in 2007, according to a report from the China MII's China Academy of Telecommunication Research (CATR). The report shows that ZTE has 43 percent of the CDMA infrastructure contracts signed in 2007, placing the company way ahead of its competitors worldwide.

In 2007 alone, ZTE delivered more than 24,000 units of CDMA base stations worldwide, achieving more than 100 percent annual growth rate over 2006. To date, ZTE tallies up to 68,000 units of CDMA base stations shipments.

In terms of market forecast, MII's CATR predicts the number of CDMA users to reach 600 million by 2010, or an annual compound growth rate (ACGR) of 12.4 percent, laying ahead enormous market opportunities. EV-DO users are also expected to reach 450 million, with an ACGR of 68.7 percent from 2007 to 2010. For the same period, China's CDMA market's ACGR is estimated at 24.9 percent with the number of CDMA users exceeding 90 million by 2010.

Besides signing key deals in Asia-Pacific and Africa, ZTE has also established partnerships with multinational telecom operators in high-end markets such as Norway, Portugal, and Poland in Europe, as well as North America and Mexico.

As of end of 2007, ZTE's CDMA products have been deployed by over 120 operators in more than 70 countries, with approximately 110 million users worldwide. It has also helped set up over 50 EV-DO networks globally. The company has deployed the world's biggest All-IP CDMA2000 for Reliance Communications in India to further expand its coverage footprints. To date, the capacity of ZTE's CDMA mobile Softswitch solutions has reached 60 million lines.
