RFID Begins Transitioning From Disruptive Technology to an Encompassing Solution
(Business News & Technology News, 24 Jan 2008)
The Automatic Identification and Security Group at market research firm Frost & Sullivan will be holding its 2008 Quarterly Analyst Briefing Presentation on the radio frequency identification (RFID) market on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at 10:00 AM CST/11:00 AM EST.
RFID has progressively begun transitioning from being considered a disruptive technology to a more pervasive solution that is being deployed across applications and vertical markets. The presentation will analyze the trends associated with this transition within the tags, readers and middleware/software markets and identifies emerging opportunity sectors for the technology in the short term.
Highlights of the briefing include: an analysis of market trends for passive tags, readers and middleware within the North American market, key drivers and challenges, as well as emerging opportunity sectors and insights into short-term market trends for the coming year.
"The future emphasis for RFID is expected to shift towards process-based solutions; however, developing broad-based products for individual applications is not the best way to move forward. End-user processes are highly diverse and require RFID systems to integrate with their existing AIDC infrastructure. Such process-centric solutions need to have high levels of flexibility incorporated into the design to ensure that customized requirements are taken care of," noted Frost & Sullivan Automation & Electronics Program Manager Priyanka Gouthaman.
