(Business News & Technology News, 9 Jan 2008)
Sprint Nextel and Amdocs have signed a multi-year agreement for the delivery of Amdocs' software and services to support the launch and operations of Xohm, Sprint's mobile Internet initiative.
Under the multi-year agreement, Amdocs will be the prime systems integrator responsible for the construction and maintenance of the new mobile portal for Xohm's offerings. Amdocs will also serve as prime systems integrator for delivery of a comprehensive set of Amdocs best-in-class customer experience systems to establish Xohm's ordering, service activation and provisioning, customer relationship management (CRM) and self-service and billing operations.
"Amdocs will deliver the business and operations support environment that will help Sprint re-define the mobile Internet customer experience," said Atish Gude, Senior Vice President - Operations for Xohm, at Sprint. "This should enable Sprint to drive breakthrough innovation with the Xohm initiative, while ensuring operational cost efficiencies."
Xohm is Sprint's first-of-its-kind initiative to extend the home and office Internet experience to allow for Internet mobility and ubiquity over an advanced WiMAX technology-based nationwide network. The new network will be commercially available in select U.S. cities beginning in the second quarter of 2008. WiMAX technology provides open standards-based high-throughput wireless broadband connections over long distances. It will allow Xohm customers to experience a new form of interactive communications, high-speed Internet browsing, social networking tools, local, location-based and multimedia services anywhere, any time and on any compatible device.
Xohm will promote its services via a new, state-of-the-art portal which Amdocs will build and integrate with Xohm's systems environment. The new portal will offer Xohm and Xohm partner services, and will incorporate user registration, identity management, self service and mobile commerce capabilities.
