NextWave Wireless Forms New Business Units to Meet Growing Demand for Mobile Multimedia and Wireless Broadband Products

(Business News & Technology News, 7 Jan 2008)

NextWave Wireless Inc. has formed two new business units, NextWave Mobile Products and NextWave Network Products, to enhance the company's ability to meet growing market demand for its cutting-edge mobile multimedia and wireless broadband products and technologies.

"In less than three years, NextWave has grown into a global provider of mobile multimedia and wireless broadband solutions to many of the largest network operators and device manufacturers in the world," said Allen Salmasi, CEO of NextWave Wireless. "In recognition of our triple-digit revenue growth, and the fact that we now have more than 1,100 employees in 29 international offices, we are realigning our operations into two highly focused business units, NextWave Mobile Products and NextWave Network Products. This will help us sustain our rate of growth and will make it much easier for us to provide our customers with solutions that seamlessly integrate our wide range of innovative products and technologies."

NextWave Mobile Products, comprised of the company's PacketVideo (PV) subsidiary and the company's semiconductor development group, will develop and deliver advanced multimedia software and content management solutions, baseband and RF chipsets, and device reference designs to network operators and mobile device manufacturers. NextWave Mobile Products will market its semiconductor products under the NextWave Wireless brand and will continue to market its software and media content solutions under the PV brand. The new business unit, which is headquartered in San Diego, will be headed by James Brailean, Ph.D., who will also remain CEO of PV.

NextWave Network Products will be comprised of NextWave's IPWireless and GO Networks subsidiaries. Both companies, acquired in 2007, will begin an immediate transition to the NextWave Wireless brand. The new business unit, which also includes NextWave's network services and systems development businesses, will focus on providing network operators around the world with wireless infrastructure equipment and end-to-end, wireless broadband and mobile broadcast network systems. Headquartered in San Diego, CA, NextWave Network Products will be headed by William Jones Ph.D., currently CEO of IPWireless.
