Zhejiang Unicom Again Selects ECI Telecom to Expand Its Mobile Network
(Business News & Technology News, 19 Dec 2007)
ECI Telecom has signed an agreement with Zhejiang Unicom, one of China Unicom's largest subsidiary, to expand its mobile network. This multi-million dollar contract marks another milestone in the long-term relationship of the two companies, who have been working together for several years.
Zhejiang Unicom's subscriber base of over ten million users demand increasing amounts of bandwidth. By upgrading and expanding its GSM/CDMA network, Zhejiang Unicom will be able to optimize coverage, provide greater capacity and provision new data services, as well as add new subscribers.
For the last 10 years, ECI has worked with Zhejiang Unicom, installing over 10,000 optical elements. For this most recent contract, ECI is deploying its XDM portfolio of MultiService Transport Platforms (MSTP), as well as the BroadGate-20 and 40 optical platforms. The network is managed by ECI's LightSoft end-to-end multi-layer network management system, enabling Zhejiang to easily control and provision new services. LightSoft already manages thousands of ECI's network elements for Zhejiang Unicom, delivering the ability to cost-effectively manage the different equipment families and including all the network's segments and technologies under one management system.
Four years ago, Zhejiang Unicom began publicly recognizing their leading vendors and honoring them with an "Excellent Partner" award. As a top 10-ranked company, ECI has been honored with such an award for the past four years. Presently, 70 percent of Zhejiang Unicom's optical network is manufactured by ECI Telecom.
