ZTE Leads in Most Number of Mobile Network Infrastructure Contracts Signed

(Business News & Technology News, 14 Dec 2007)

ZTE Corp. receives another top ranking based on a report released by market research firm Gartner. According to the study "Dataquest Insight: Mobile Network Infrastructure Contracts, Worldwide, 1H07," ZTE ranks first in terms of the number of mobile network contracts signed in the first six months of 2007.

Majority of the deals signed were GSM, CDMA and WCDMA contracts. ZTE tops the ranking in spite of a drop in the number of contracts announced in the first half of 2007, down 64 percent compared with the second half of 2006, according to the report. Despite the decline in overall mobile infrastructure revenue globally, ZTE still leads the industry by sealing the most number in the industry especially in the Asia Pacific region and emerging markets, which constitute 33 percent of all the announced contracts, a total of 188 deals. ZTE's achievement is attributed to several significant partnerships the company forged with leading providers such as China Mobile, China Unicom, Reliance, Etisalat and Telenor.

The Gartner report states that the drop in contract revenue was due to continued price pressure in emerging markets and the lack of revenue-generating "killer" applications. As such, Gartner sees the mobile network evolution to result in new market challenges in the years to come that will be to the advantage of Chinese vendors. It will allow Chinese equipment makers to offer quality solutions that will address specific and unique demands of the new emerging markets.

ZTE excels particularly in the CDMA area with its next-generation All-IP V3 integrated hardware platform, where it ranks first in base station delivery and number of contracts signed. ZTE also recorded remarkable 300 percent increase in GSM volume shipment in the period, allowing the company to expand its global GSM capacity to 90 million network lines. The company has also penetrated new markets such as Eastern and Western Europe for its WCDMA access system. ZTE's mobile network infrastructure solutions are deployed by over 120 operators spread across more than 70 countries.
