CSR has embedded the RealNetworks RealAudio codec in its Internet radio example design, RadioPro. As one of the most established and ubiquitous audio streaming formats, RealAudio will provide users of products based on RadioPro with access to the widest possible range of online content.
As a digital entertainment services company, RealNetworks delivers a wide range of digital media and entertainment across the Internet. Their popular audio codec, RealAudio, which is used to stream internet radio, has been implemented into RadioPro's DSP. The codec is reliable, provides a high-quality listening experience and some of the most popular and numerous radio stations and programmes, such as the BBC and NPR, are broadcast in this format.
CSR's RadioPro design connects directly to the Internet without the need for an intermediary PC. It has a bill of materials (BOM) of under $15, which makes RadioPro the lowest-cost Internet radio solution on the market. Based on CSR's single-chip UniFi technology, RadioPro is also very power efficient, and provides 25 hours streaming time based on a 1.5AH battery. The example design is already in development with a number of lead customers, and internet radios based on RadioPro will be in shops by Christmas 2007.
