Moovera Introduces Mobile Wi-Fi Leveraging iBurst Technology from Kyocera

(Product News, 7 Nov 2007)

Moovera Networks' Moovera family of Moovbox broadband gateways now fully supports HC-SDMA technology (more commonly known as iBurst) from Kyocera Corp. as a high-speed wireless backhaul option. Moovbox gateways merge Wi-Fi with carrier-grade cellular backhaul in licensed spectrum, enabling service providers and local authorities to deliver Wi-Fi at street-level for municipal wireless applications, and on public transport for in-vehicle Internet access. iBurst is an "always-on" IP-centric wireless broadband Internet access system deployed in ten countries including the Unites States, South Africa, Canada, Malaysia and Australia.

"With over 250 million Wi-Fi-enabled devices expected to have shipped by 2011, the demand for Internet access over Wi-Fi is increasing every day," said Jim Baker, Moovera CEO and founder. "While in the past Wi-Fi hotspots have required a wired connection such as DSL for backhaul, the combination of our Moovbox Broadband Gateways and Kyocera HC-SDMA technology frees service providers from this restriction and allows them to deploy outdoor or in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspots with Internet access at megabit speeds wherever there is iBurst network coverage."

The Moovbox F100 fixed broadband gateway is a weatherproof access point and cellular router for outdoor deployment on street furniture such as lighting columns. The Moovbox M100 mobile gateway is a ruggedized access point and cellular router, offering multiple WAN radios for failover and featuring built-in GPS. Moovbox products also offer secure Ethernet for IP-CCTV, DVR and telematics equipment with remote in-bound access for device control. Moovsuite management tools provide remote device configuration and monitoring, Wi-Fi user authentication and usage statistics, and real-time GPS-based vehicle tracking. Moovera offers the Moovbox product line through a worldwide network of distributors and resellers, and will also market the Moovbox through iBurst network operators.
