XRONet Chooses Azimuth Systems' ACE 400WB Channel Emulator for Mobile WiMAX Testing

(Business News & Technology News, 10 Sep 2007)

XRONet has selected Azimuth Systems Inc.'s ACE 400WB WiMAX channel emulator for comprehensive performance testing of its SoC (system on a chip) product based on the IEEE 802.16e specification. As the industry's first next-generation WiMAX channel emulator, the ACE 400WB provides sophisticated channel modeling capabilities to enable real-time testing of MIMO devices and help speed the development of WiMAX chipsets, clients and infrastructure devices.

A fabless semiconductor company based in Korea, XRONet develops next-generation mobile SoC technology with ultra-low power circuit technologies and advanced wireless communication technologies. XRONet will use the ACE 400WB to accurately emulate multipath characteristics with channel correlation to determine the effect of real-world multi-channel RF interactions and validate the performance of their MIMO-based WiMAX products. The ACE 400WB also provides XRONet with the ability to test and debug MIMO algorithms, optimize the performance of WiMAX devices in MIMO and SISO environments and run competitive performance benchmark tests.

"XRONet is focused on developing cutting-edge wireless technology enabling data, voice and video everywhere," said Will Kim, CTO of XRONet. "By dramatically streamlining our development process, the ACE 400WB will help us ensure the continued creation of the world's most optimized solutions for mobile WiMAX and WiBro terminals."

Designed from the ground up as a MIMO test solution, Azimuth's ACE 400WB is purpose-built for testing the key technology differentiators of mobile WiMAX. Mobility, high throughput and extended range are dependent on the multipath environment for MIMO spatial streaming and advanced antenna techniques, and Azimuth's bi-directional and reciprocal channel modeling provides this real-world scenario in a lab.

"XRONet's selection of the ACE 400WB to automate their WiMAX testing is another significant success story for Azimuth," said Graham Celine, Senior Director of Marketing at Azimuth Systems. "By upgrading their testing to fully dynamic and true MIMO testing, the advanced signal processing technology of the ACE 400WB will provide XRONet with accurate, repeatable and fast results in a laboratory environment—enabling the delivery of higher performance SoC products."
