Anritsu Strengthens Functions for its Signal Quality Analyzer

(Product News, 4 Sep 2007)

Anritsu Corp. has strengthened the functions of its MP1800 Series Signal Quality Analyzer with the release of three software packages to improve quality evaluation of optical modules and devices used in PON, SONET/SDH, and Gigabit/10 Gigabit Ethernet systems.

The MP1800A simplifies generation of burst data and auxiliary signals (Pre-Bias, Reset) required for evaluating the performance of optical modules used in PON-system OLT and ONU units, as well as setting of output timing. In a PON system with multiple subscribers using one optical fiber branched via an optical coupler, the output timing of the multiple burst data and auxiliary signals must be controlled. This software supports evaluation of optical modules by setting the output timing of each burst data and auxiliary signal and creating IEEE and ITU-T-compliant PON burst data and auxiliary signals, as well as automated setting of output timing. This eliminates the previously difficult timing settings made by manual calculation and also shortens the time required for accurate evaluation of multiple burst data and auxiliary signals at each output timing. Additionally, the set timings can be verified using a dedicated viewer, eliminating confirmation using an oscilloscope and proving invaluable in reducing PON optical module evaluation times and improving quality evaluations.

Both the MX180001A and MX180003A are software applications for generating patterns for optical modules used in SONET/SDH, and Gigabit/10 Gigabit Ethernet systems. The generated patterns are used for evaluating jitter in a measurement environment closely emulating actual circuit conditions to improve quality evaluation of optical devices.

MX180004A PON Application Software
The MX180004A software offers a GUI-based operation for generating burst data and auxiliary signals (Pre-Bias and Reset) required by various PON systems ranging from IEEE802.3-compliant E-PON to ITU-T G.984.1/984.2-compliant G-PON to next-generation 10G-PON. The output timing of auxiliary signals and data interval is set automatically and can be confirmed using a dedicated viewer, eliminating the need for an oscilloscope. This software shortens the time needed for evaluating PON system optical modules and raises productivity.

MX180001A SONET/SDH Pattern Editor
The MX180001A software generates ITU-T-compliant STM-0STM-256c, and STS-1STS-768c SONET/SDH patterns for evaluating SONET/SDH optical devices in a measurement environment that closely emulates actual circuit conditions, thereby improving the efficiency of quality evaluation.

MX180003A GbE/10GbE Pattern Editor
The MX180003A software generates IEEE802.3-compliant GbE and 10GbE patterns for evaluating optical devices in a measurement environment that closely emulates actual circuit conditions. In addition, it supports functions such as 8B/10B and 64B/66B encoding plus automatic FCS[*14] calculation, supporting evaluation of GbE and 10GbE SFP and XFP optical modules without dedicated measuring instruments, such as IP analyzers.
