AirMagnet Handheld Analyzer to Handle Faster Wireless LANs

(Product News, 6 Jun 2007)

AirMagnet Inc. has launched its AirMagnet Handheld Analyzer 7.0 designed to offer customers a convenient handheld tool for proactively diagnosing and troubleshooting wireless LANs (WLANs). The latest release introduces support for the 802.11g wireless LAN protocol, giving organizations unprecedented insight into wireless performance on the network.

"With Handheld Analyzer, IT staff not only get a powerful tool to help plan and deploy a wireless network, but also to audit security policies, proactively detect threats, identify performance problems, and actively troubleshoot the network," said Chris Roeckl, vice president of marketing at AirMagnet. "AirMagnet was the first to deliver a handheld analyzer for the wireless LAN market, and this latest version builds on these core capabilities by extending protocol support and expanding the feature set, giving users unparalleled insight into wireless performance."

In addition to the currently supported 802.11b adapters, Handheld Analyzer 7.0 includes support for Summit Data Communications' SDC-CF20G 802.11g Compact Flash Module with integrated antennas, to recognize and report on all 802.11g speeds and traffic information. The product also delivers the new pre-802.11n alarm, that lets an organization protect and manage threats associated with these pre-standard devices. Furthermore, Handheld Analyzer 7.0 decodes and analyzes 802.11d information for those customers with devices implementing this standard.

AirMagnet's Handheld Analyzer is a convenient, inexpensive way to solve serious problems associated with the enterprise WLAN. It helps IT staff make sense of end-user complaints, quickly resolving performance problems and automatically detecting hundreds of security threats and other network vulnerabilities. This includes easy detection and location of all Rogue access points, a comprehensive audit of all wireless policies, automated vulnerability assessment and the industry's best wireless intrusion detection—all in a handheld tool.
