(Business News & Technology News, 17 May 2007)
Aperto Networks, builder of the world's most advanced WiMAX base stations and subscriber units for fixed, portable, and mobile applications, is participating in the WiMAX Forum's third public Mobile WiMAX PlugFest in Sophia Antipolis, France. The company is testing its latest single-sector base station against products from other companies to ensure interoperability for WiMAX Forum established system profiles based on the IEEE 802.16e-2005 standard.
"Participating in WiMAX Forum's PlugFest series is crucial to our success," said Manish Gupta, Vice President of Marketing & Alliances for Aperto Networks and WiMAX Forum board member. "We are committed to remaining at the forefront of WiMAX technology and these forums help ensure interoperability with our growing ecosystem of partners."
At previous WiMAX Forum PlugFests, Aperto tested its multi-sector PacketMAX 5000 and single sector PacketMAX 3000 base stations. The PacketMAX 5000 is the industry's highest density base station and the only carrier-grade base station that can support both the IEEE802.16-2004 and IEEE802.16e-2005 WiMAX standards simultaneously.
"With 34 companies participating in this latest WiMAX Forum PlugFest, we are seeing strong growth in the number of interoperable products and increased success during testing," said Ron Resnick, President and Chairman of the WiMAX Forum. "Thanks to our member companies and PlugFest attendees, including Aperto, we are on track to begin certifying mobile WiMAX products later this year. WiMAX Forum Certified mobile products will be interoperable, which is key in order to enhance the user experience while decreasing operator investment and consumer costs for broadband anywhere, anytime."
