OKI Develops industry's first session border controller for NGNs
(Product News, 28 Mar 2007)
Oki Electric Ind. Co. Ltd has developed a session border controller for next generation networks (NGN). OKI's "CenterStage NX3200" will be available in Japan starting today.
"Telecom carriers will start providing triple play service for voice, video and data to tens of millions of telephone subscribers over NGNs. In such an environment, carriers need to connect with other carriers to transfer services and provide a ubiquitous environment, enabling users to access services whenever and wherever they desire," said Kichiro Akino, President, Network Systems Company at Oki Electric. "CenterStage NX3200 enables carriers to interconnect their networks which hadn't been done in the past because it was difficult to process large capacity traffic in high speed with different IPs such as IPv4 to IPv6. In addition, the development of such system was delayed because there were no frameworks to flexibly interconnect higher-level services. Going forward, OKI will continue to release various products to expand functionality, thus effectively responding to the needs of telecom customers."
OKI succeeded in overcoming the challenge of processing at high-speed while ensuring high expandability, using the "CenterStage HAPF" as its middleware platform. In addition, OKI was able to flexibly interconnect higher-level services using AdvancedTCA communications servers from Motorola Inc. and network processing technologies.
"Motorola is delighted that OKI has adopted our Centellis 3000 series ATCA communications server in their session border controller CenterStage NX3200," said Stephen Dow, Vice President and General Manager, Embedded Communications Computing, Motorola. "This is further evidence of the increased acceptance of open, standards-based communications servers as a common platform for a wide range of applications. In our communications servers, Motorola verifies thermal, power and mechanical operation of the hardware and integrates a standard Carrier Grade Linux distribution, comprehensive centralized platform management and high-availability fabric management in an SA Forum compliant platform. We look forward to continuing our success with OKI's deployment of exciting new products based on Motorola's ATCA communications servers."
