Bridgewater Systems' AAA Service Controller leads with new support for next-generation networks

(Product News, 28 Mar 2007)

Bridgewater Systems has announced new support for its market-leading AAA Service Controller that allows service providers to deploy this carrier-grade network access control platform across 3G, and now 4G access networks such as WiMAX. The AAA Service Controller incorporates mobile WiMAX enhancements that build on existing Bridgewater technology and expertise in providing best of breed AAA solutions in wireless networks. As a result, service providers can extend networks to take advantage of innovations and services made possible with next generation 4G networks and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)/Multimedia Domain (MMD) frameworks, with a common carrier-grade network access control infrastructure that supports multiple access technologies simultaneously including wireline, CDMA, GSM and now WiMAX systems.

Recognized as the most scalable and robust authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA) product of its kind, the AAA Service Controller enables service providers to control access to advanced and differentiated services across fixed, mobile and converged networks. A key component of Bridgewater's extensive policy management portfolio, the AAA Service Controller demonstrates the power of Bridgewater's access technology agnostic approach by providing service providers with a vendor-neutral and network-neutral access control platform. With a common policy and subscriber profile repository that serves all access networks, service providers can create a unified view of subscribers, realize operational efficiencies by eliminating the need to reprovision subscribers as new access technologies such as WiMAX are introduced, and accelerate time to market for new services.

As service providers extend networks with WiMAX, Bridgewater offers a proven AAA solution with extensive mobile WiMAX support such as device authentication and mobile IP. The latest enhancements to the AAA Service Controller feature dual-stack RADIUS/Diameter support, allowing service providers to migrate to new network variants such as WiMAX 1.5 and IMS frameworks, where Diameter and/or RADIUS protocols are required. Because the AAA Service Controller supports RADIUS and Diameter interfaces simultaneously, service providers can deploy a common multi-protocol network access platform to protect their investment in legacy applications and services and leverage new SIP-based services as they migrate to next-generation networks and IMS/MMD frameworks.
