Agilent Technologies announces new WiMAX protocol conformance test solution for 802.16e 2005

(Product News, 28 Mar 2007)

Agilent Technologies Inc. has launched its IEEE 802.16e 2005 Protocol Conformance Test (PCT) Solution, which is based on the new Agilent E6651A Mobile WiMAX Test Set. Created in conjunction with Innowireless Co. Ltd, this breakthrough PCT capability will enable WiMAX designers to verify protocol implementations and quickly get products to market.

When equipped with the PCT capability, Agilent's E6651A Mobile WiMAX Test Set allows equipment developers and test houses to run validated protocol test cases to verify that their implementations conform to WiMAX standards. Developers can also create custom TTCN-3 test cases to fully stress the limits of their designs. Beginning in June 2007, Agilent plans to support subscriber station testing for WiMAX profiles 1A and 3A. Base station test and other WiMAX profiles will be supported in subsequent releases.

"With the new PCT capability, the E6651A is the only product to blend protocol conformance, RF and real-world protocol application testing in a single package,” said Niels Fache, Vice President and General Manager, Mobile Broadband Division, Agilent. "Together, Agilent and Innowireless have created an innovative and powerful feature set to ensure that equipment developers quickly deliver robust products to the market."

"Our long-standing experience with WiBro, in Korea, means that Innowireless effectively has more experience with mobile WiMAX protocol test than any other industry player in this market today," said JongTae Chung, Chairman and CEO, Innowireless. "In partnership with Agilent, we are now using this experience to quickly deliver an industry-leading portfolio of validated 802.16e 2005 test cases."

The addition of PCT and support for TTCN-3 test case development is the next step for the E6651A. The E6651A represents a significant breakthrough in Mobile WiMAX testing, with the flexibility to configure a wide range of network parameters through an easy-to-use Windows XP user interface and high-speed, precision measurements. It incorporates flexible base-station emulation, IP traffic support and parametric measurements into one integrated unit, extending Agilent's unmatched portfolio of WiMAX test solutions for R&D, verification and manufacturing.
