(Business News & Technology News, 11 Jul 2005)

Lucent Technologies has announced that it is expanding R&D activities at Lucent Technologies Optical Networks ( LTON ), a wholly owned subsidiary of Lucent in Shanghai, China, into data communications and access networks. The decision to expand R&D activities in Shanghai will increase ability to deliver next-generation optical, data and access network and service solutions throughout China, claims the company.

“This investment further demonstrates our commitment to move resources closer to our customers. It also enables us to more efficiently leverage local talent to better fulfill the demands for our industry-leading solutions in optical transport, access networks and data communications,” said Bin Zhou, general manager of Lucent Technologies Optical Networks ( LTON ). “With more R&D activities being moved to LTON, Lucent will be able to provide its customers in China and worldwide with leading solutions and support services that best meet their unique demands more quickly and cost-effectively.”
