Serial Ports

( 1 Jan 2007 )

Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX6638 thermal sensor with two independent SMBus™ serial ports. The dual SMBus interface allows a G PU card controller and a CPU board controller to access the temperature data of the G PU chip and graphics card, thereby eliminating communication errors. The MAX6638 also monitors its own internal temperature. The combination of high accuracy and multiple temperature monitoring makes the MAX6638 appropriate for next-generation notebook computers with upgradeable graphics systems. The MAX6638's high temperature accuracy enhances overall system performance. The device also offers one programmable OT (overtemperature) output and two programmable ALERT outputs.
