Novera Optics to Deploy Additional 20,000 Lines of DWDM Access Transport Technologies to Korea Telecom

(Top News, 28 Jul 2006)

Korea Telecom has ordered additional dense wavelength division multiplexed (DWDM) access transport technologies from Novera Optics to support about 20,000 broadband subscribers. The deployment brings the company's total number of Novera-supported lines to approximately 100,000.

Previously Novera Optics has delivered more than 75,000 lines of DWDM transport technologies to Korea Telecom for Internet and data services through its DWDM access transport platform. Due to successful commercial demands, Korea Telecom is adding another 20,000 lines of the proven technology. With its point-to-point, bidirectional optical links through a single feeder fiber, Novera Optics system provides Korea Telecom an easy upgrade path, symmetrical downstream and upstream bandwidth, and multiprotocol transparency for fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and fiber-to-the-curb (FTTC) applications.

As a technology transport platform for fiber-to-the-x (FTTx) deployments, the new SpeedLIGHT16 and SpeedLIGHT32 greatly improves the ability of service providers to deliver the bandwidth their customers need both now and in the future. Using Novera Optics λ-PON(tm) (Lambda-PON) DWDM FTTx technology, SpeedLIGHT eliminates the need for expensive, wavelength-specific optical network units (ONUs) and does away with the problems of bandwidth sharing, bandwidth upgrades, and mixed-service delivery on a passive optical network (PON).
