ND SatCom Deploys Telemedicine Solution in Kazakhstan

(Business News & Technology News, 5 Jul 2006)

ND SatCom has delivered 16 SkyWAN terminals which support telemedicine applications in Kazakhstan. It is a telemedicine pilot project which has been implemented in two of the 17 Kazakh regions. A follow-up contract has been awarded just recently which contains further 22 terminals in three other regions.

In Kazakhstan, SkyWAN connects medical centers, hospitals and medical universities throughout the country. Due to Kazakhstan’s lack of terrestrial infrastructure in remote areas, satellite communication is the only solution for fast and reliable connections between rural areas and urban medical institutions. ND SatCom’s telemedicine solution enables telephoning, videoconferencing, and exchange of medical data, such as the latest research findings in databases. Applications which are supported by the system include live operations and emergency teleconferencing.
