(Business News & Technology News, 10 Jul 2009)
Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd has been awarded a contract by Viettel, the largest mobile operator in Vietnam, to deploy a HSPA+ (High Speed Packet Access) network in Vietnam. The HSPA+ network for Vietnam will be one of the fastest 3G networks in the world.
According to the contracts signed in the past weeks, Huawei will construct 3,000 base stations in Vietnam including Hanoi, Danang and part of the Ho Chi Minh area. Based on Huawei’s advanced fourth generation base transceiver station (BTS) and HSPA+/UMTS capabilities, this new and enhanced 3G network will enable Viettel to provide very fast mobile broadband speeds of up to 21Mbps to its customers. Viettel’s new HSPA+ network will enable its customers to enjoy the wireless broadband services, superior multimedia services and high-quality content in both of the most densely populated areas and the remote areas where cable broadband infrastructure has been limited. Huawei’s innovative approach and rich experience in 3G network deployment will help Viettel achieve its goal to serve most of the Vietnam people for a better communication service.
“We are looking forward to working with Viettel to deliver a world-class and cost-effective HSPA+ network for Vietnam,” said He Gang, Huawei’s President of GSM&UMTS Product Line. “We are committed to supporting Viettel deliver the fastest 3G and mobile broadband services to its customers.” Huawei has been awarded 10 HSPA+ commercial contracts to date and has successfully deployed HSPA+ networks for major operators across Asia and Europe. Huawei has also won 139 commercial HSPA/UMTS network contracts, of which 116 are HSPA networks.
