IDENT Technology AG Wins at GSMA Mobile Innovation Grand Prix EMEA Tournament

(Business News & Technology News, 29 Jun 2009)

IDENT Technology AG has won the Most Innovative Embedded Mobile or Device-centric Technology category, and is also one of two overall winners, at the EMEA leg of this year’s GSMA Mobile Innovation Grand Prix. Winners were announced during the “HiT Barcelona World Innovation Summit” that took place in Barcelona last week. The "Mobile Innovation Grand Prix" is held by the global organisation that presents the interest of the worldwide mobile communication industry.

Within the context of the three-day convention in the Spanish city right by the Mediterranean Sea, the ten nominees from seven different countries had the opportunity to present their solutions in detail to interested visitors. In the “Pitch”, the individual developments were presented to the judging panel (Belgacom, Intel Capital, Telecom Italia, Orange). Here, each participant had the same circumstances. Each nominated company was given 7 minutes for the presentation, as well as an additional 5 minutes to answer questions afterwards.

A significant added value, a large market potential as well as an easy integration were key criteria for the judging panel, in order to award the prize for the Most Innovative Embedded Mobile or Device-centric Technology category to IDENT Technology AG. The ULPP Technology by IDENT was able to convince at all points.

After a pulsating final, IDENT also won as a GSMA Mobile Innovation Global Finalist. Awarded this honour, IDENT will compete with the other regional winners at the GSMA’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February 2010.

“To win our category is a real highlight,” said Stefan Donat, COO IDENT Technology AG. “Considering the excellent solutions of our competitors, we never even thought of the overall victory. On the account of this we are even more excited that with ULPP we obviously were able to present the technology with the most promising future. I am very proud of our excellent team of developers, that brought forward this technology.”

ULPP is an energy-saving technology with new functions and stands for Ultra Low Power Proximity. As a “magical switch” ULPP turns a device on if approached. Immediately after the device is used it switches back into the energy-saving idle mode. Within this mode ULPP consumes significantly less power than the self-discharge of a standard mignon battery. (power consumption ULPP: 1,74µA, self-discharge mignon battery 4,5µA).
